Heidi Oberheide, an Eastern Washington artist, explores what she describes as "color shape paintings." Primarily concerned with color relationships, especially variations in hue, value and intensity, Oberheide reduces what were originally tree forms into elemental "shapes of color," and arranges them in a row across the canvas. The color shapes in the rows are slightly tilted with uneven ends, imparting an organic quality and giving each painting a strong total image with its own particular character and expression.

Heidi Oberheide holds a MFA from Southern Illinois University and has received a Western States NEA Fellowship in painting and two purchase awards from the Washington State Arts Commission. She has shown extensively throughout Canada and the Pacific Northwest. She currently resides in Palouse, Washington.
