   Gillian Theobald

For her fourth exhibition at the Linda Hodges Gallery, Seattle painter Gillian Theobald presents new images using the classical elements Earth, Air, Fire and Water.

Continuing to work with light, space and form through an abstract expressionist process, Theobald relies on the diptych format to emphasize a dialogue between seemingly opposing expressions. Her use of landscape painting themes emphasizes the meditative overtones of the paintings and allows her spiritual upbringing as a Quaker to imbue the work with mystical qualities. Although the subject matter of her paintings has evolved, the issues - particularly the relationship between shadow and light - remain constant. Her new body of work addresses questions about the elements in our worldly experience, using symbols for our emotional/transpersonal experience.

Gillian Theobald received her MA from San Diego State University in 1971. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including shows at the Los Angeles Museum of Art and galleries in Berlin and London. This exhibition is running concurrently with a retrospective of Theobaldıs work at the Port Angeles Fine Art Center (through July).
