The artist, who hails from the Ellensburg area, also has an appreciation of the Eastern Washington landscape, and recently the tumbleweed has spurred his imagination. Its particular form and textures require an intense study of brushwork in order to capture a visual feeling of its essence - a stage of negative/positive relationships in a dance of brush marks.
Roger Jones was born in Ellensburg, Washington in 1941. He received his BA from Central Washington State College and an MFA from the University of Washington in Seattle. His work is in numerous public and private collections, including the King County and the City of Seattle One-Percent for the Arts Programs, the Boise Art Museum, the University Hospital, the Washington State Arts Commission, the Weyerhaeuser Corporation, and most recently Central Washington State University.
