Jack Portland continues his study of the Italian landscape where he resides much of the year. His dynamic interpretations of the landscape exude an intense focus. His paintings explore his affinity for mosaics and abstract patterning. With paint applications similar in technique to Impressionism, Portland creates brightly colored compositions of biomorphic forms and intertwined patterns. These animated forms are presented as pictorial landscapes within a carnival-like atmosphere and an air of amusement.
Portland's work has been collected by numerous Northwest corporate and private collectors and has been consistently shown at national galleries and museums. He attended the Museum Art School, Portland, OR, and the University of California, Santa Barbara, CA.
