   Stephen McClelland

By using solid colors defined and shaped by concentric black mcclellandes the artist uniquely pairs drawing and painting in a single piece. The larger works in the exhibit exemplify the spontaneity of composition and balance of elements that impart a exuberant energy to McClellandÕs work. In these works biomorphic pods and amoeba like shapes play out their random dances against a brilliant background of confetti colors and Mondrian grids. Stephen McClelland was born in Amarillo Texas and received his BFA from the John Herron School of Art at Indiana University in 1968. His graduate studies included work with Robert C. Jones and he attained his MFA from the University of Washington in 1975. He currently resides in Seattle, Washington where he is a guest teacher at the Cornish Institute of Art.
