Lee Kelly

In conjunction with his Portland Art Museum retrospective, the Linda Hodges Gallery presents recent work by the esteemed sculptor, Lee Kelly. Spanning a career of fifty-plus years, Kelly's work is informed by exposure to other cultures through his extensive travels, as well as a rugged Pacific Northwest sensibility. He is noted for being a pioneer in the use of Cor-Ten steel, helping to establish the dominancy of the material for monumental sculpture. For his Hodges exhibition, Kelly will exhibit a cross section of work, including stainless, Cor-Ten and painted metal figurative sculpture, as well as mixed-media work on paper.
Lee Kelly was born in 1932 in McCall, Idaho. In 1959 he received a BFA from the then named Museum Art School at the Portland Art Museum. Kelly has been the recipient of numerous awards, fellowships and grants, including the Governor's Arts Award from the State of Oregon and two Oregon Art Commission Masters Fellowships. Kelly's work can be seen in numerous private and public collections, including the Seattle Art Museum, the Portland Art Museum, the New Orleans Art Museum in Louisiana, Oregon State University and the Washington Rose Park in Portland, Oregon.
