Affiliated Artist    Shelley Jordon    Jordon's loyalty to the genre of still life has found reinforcement with the resurgence of scholarly and marketplace interest. As a contemporary genre painter, Jordon works directly from composed arrangements of everyday domestic items such as decorative bottles, flowers and fruits, and patterned cloths. Because these arrangements are typically set up near a window, natural light interacts with the objects which create beautiful, almost abstracted reflections of patterns and light refraction. According to Jordon, "gestural brush work and rich surfaces record the urgency of trying to capture a brief moment in time dictated by the short life span of the flowers and the ephemeral quality of the light."
