Linda Hodges Gallery presents an exhibition of new paintings by Brad Rude. In his second show at the gallery, Rude focuses on an individual or main character immersed in a landscape full of classical references to the grandeur of nature. In these paintings, the main character is a horse, Brad says, "because of their heroic, spirited and curious nature...the most universally helpful and influential animal the world has ever known." The horses are presented in large-scale landscapes, the better to experience the outdoors, and the viewer is invited to ponder the curious engagements the horses are experiencing. Rude states, "These paintings were made to help us be calm and reflective, remembering the magic that nature can create when we participate in it."

Brad Rude was born in 1964, in Lewiston, Montana. He attended Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington in 1983-84 and the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1984-85, studying oil painting, drawing and sculpture. He began working at the Walla Walla Foundry in 1992 and continues his association as a Patina Technologist and Consultant. In 1992, Rude was awarded a Washington State Arts Commission/National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. His paintings and sculpture can be found in numerous public and private collections including the City of Portland, Oregon, the City of Auburn, Washington and the Woodland Park Zoo, Seattle, Washington. Rude has exhibited widely throughout the Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountain states.
