Jim Phalen returns to The Linda Hodges Gallery in June for his third one person exhibition. Exhibiting a new body of oil paintings, Phalen will present a show comprised of still life, figures and cityscapes. In his new show Phalen will expound on a paradox: The creation of a painting, while appearing to capture a moment in time, actually takes weeks or months to complete. To do this, the Phalen will present paintings that feature experimental arrangements of subject, arranged freely and unselfconsciously, in a patchwork-like tableau reminiscent of a artist's sketchbook. Phalen's new paintings embodying the notion that a painting can be more directly about perceptual analysis than finished product.
