Patrick LoCicero returns to Linda Hodges Gallery in a one person exhibition entitled: "The History of Botanicals." Exploring the tradition of botanical and still life painting, LoCicero reinterprets floral imagery by introducing collaged elements. Choosing from a variety of subjects, including history books, vintage children's texts and even antique wallpaper, LoCicero creates a fantastic world of hybrid flora.
LoCicero's botanicals require close examination to appreciate the artist's gift for association. Delicate flower petals, tiny buds and full blooms of gorgeous color - created from snippets of ephemera, are arranged in exquisitely painted vases, or suspended in branches of swag. This verdure forms the artist's compositional framework, and allows LoCicero to explore the painterly aspects (spatial concerns and contrast in particular) of interest to him, while creating extraordinary, stylish artwork of uncommon beauty.
