 Fred Lisaius   Images   |   Resume

Inspired by the Luminist period of American painting, Fred Lisaius integrates contemporary themes, including genetic engineering, into his acrylic paintings of avian landscapes. Working from a large collection of collected insects, bird field guides and his own photographs, the artist creates altered environments that serve as a commentary on the process of evolution and human ecological interference. Repeated layers of glazing impart nuances of color and subtleties of light to twisting branches of semi-surrealist flora, while brightly contrasting flower shapes and arthropod forms serve as a counter-point. Patterned over softly glowing horizons, Lisiaus's invented landscapes are beautiful and thought provoking.
