Lin is noted for his integration of current Western art with the traditional Chinese fine-line (gongbi hua) style of painting. Thus his approach represents an intellectually and aesthetically challenging balance between the old and new. In this new body of work he internalizes aspects of his subject matter - books, the lotus flower and nature to create a very personal and mysterious world where suggestions of mortality and the passage of time are revealed
