Affiliated Artist    Fred Holcomb    Images   |   Resume     Fred Holcomb returns to the Linda Hodges Gallery in August for his third exhibition featuring oil and mixed media paintings. Holcomb's paintings are informed by close study of particular places that are universal and dynamic. His paintings are vigorous in color, and incorporate abstract imagery and deep layering. Holcomb welcomes the perception of depth intrinsic to painting, but for him the painting imagery is subordinate to the painting process, which is the primary subject of his work. In Holcomb's American Dream paintings, the experience of viewing the landscape is animated by the high speed of the automobile and the visions of boundless space and unrestrained mobility inspired by the land. Imagery for these photo-based paintings is from the wide open spaces of the American West, as experienced in a contemporary way - at freeway speed.
